New business guidance

It’s difficult enough to set up a new business premises, so we’ve worked with West Lothian Council and other community groups to provide some basic information applicable to anybody recently receiving the keys to a shiny new business premises. Welcome to Linlithgow!

The information provided here is very much abbreviated and only intended as a guide. Please refer to the West Lothian Council website for one-to-one guidance from the Planning department. Planning guidance can be found here. One Linlithgow does not create or enforce these rules – this is all down to West Lothian Council. We are summarising some aspects of guidance here in the hope that it helps you get it right first time and comparatively stress-free!

Please note that if your business is located on or near the High Street, it’s likely that you will also have to follow additional rules because the area is a Conservation Area. It’s better to check up beforehand and get it right first time, than e.g. have to take down signage that does not comply.

One Linlithgow visits all new businesses with a “welcome pack”, containing this and much more information, as well as PPE and distancing stickers/posters, UV lamps to detect counterfeit currency, DNA kits to mark valuable items, and more. Please contact us if you haven’t been visited yet, or you would like any items topped up.

Linlithgow Civic Trust has produced a handy leaflet for new businesses, directly below.
